Throttle Down Speed Co. caught up with Charlotte Kainz before her trip to Daytona for her 2016 AMA Pro Flat Track Season. Charlotte, a current college student let's us in on what's going on before Daytona Flat Track 2016.
What have you been up to on the off season?
This off season has been busy for me. I am a full-time student at University of Wisconsin-Whitewater so school definitely keeps me busy. In between school during the week I work hard trying to get my sponsors and also get everything ready for this upcoming season. I try to ride as often as possible too. I don't get to take off school for days before Daytona like some of my competitors but I have gotten out on the ice a few times this winter. Even this past week I did my first concrete race at "Flat Out Friday."
What was the best part about the 2015 season?
I made my first GNC2 main event in my rookie season with a 9th at Springfield.
What was the worst part about the 2015 season?
Out of the 3 nationals I raced last year, I blew up my bikes at 2 of them... (Du Quoin and Rapid City)
What bikes will you be running this year?
I will be riding my personal CRF450s and Gus Feind's XR750.
Are your bikes ready for Daytona or is it coming down to the wire?
I hate to say it but it is coming down to the wire a bit. With being at school and not home at all during the week it is hard for me to get anything done. Thankfully my dad got all of my motors done so it is mostly cosmetic things that I need to do.
Who do you think your biggest competitor(s) will be in 2016?
I think there are quite a few people in GNC2 that have a legitimate shot at top 5 finishes. The veterans will be strong of course but there are a few rookies this year who will be fast too.
What tracks are you most excited about this season?
I am really looking forward to both Springfield miles again. It is where I made my first main last year and in that race I made a lot of rookie mistakes. I'm more experienced and prepared for it this year.
What track will you miss the most that did not make the cut this year?
Pomona half mile
What will be the biggest challenge of the 2016 season?
The biggest challenge for me will be getting to all of the races.
Other then being part of the Throttle Down Speed Co. Team, who else are you representing this year?
I wouldn't be able to do what I do without the people that support me, so a big thank you goes to: Gus Feind, Red Line Cycles, Wiseco, Tri-R Distributing, Spectro Oils, Mitas, Saddlemen, American Kargo, Cometic, Bell Helmets, Kennedy Racing, SBS Brakes, Evans Cooling, RASE, Impact Armor, ANSR, Hammerhead Designs, EKS Brand, Vortex, Motion Pro, PCD
